Coaching Tokens Review

CoachingTokens was launched in April 2011 and is a totally unique poker training site. It took over a year to develop the platform that powers CoachingTokens and I must say that the website looks very impressive. The idea behind CoachingTokens is to offer a platform where online poker players can receive free personal coaching from experienced poker players.

As of April 2012 the coaches also have paid services on top of the free services they currently offer so if you are looking for some more 1 on 1 time check them out.

Most poker training sites require players to sign-up for a monthly/annual membership in order to receive access to the content on the site. CoachingTokens understands that the online poker world has become way more competitive in recent years, which is why they feel players need personal coaching rather than generic poker strategy.

The only way to fix leaks in your poker game is by first identifying them, which is hard to do by simply watching poker training videos. By using one of the 30+ personal coaches at CoachingTokens you’ll be able to have your coach identify leaks in your game, which you can then work on next time you play a session.

CoachingTokens is 100% free, but there is a bit of a catch. In order to receive free personal coaching you need to sign-up to one of the poker sites that CoachingTokens recommends. There are currently 11 poker rooms that players can choose from and each of the poker rooms has a great rakeback or VIP deal that you’ll receive. Once you start playing real money poker at the site you decide to join you’ll begin earning tokens.

The tokens you earn from playing poker can be used towards hiring a personal coach. Each token is worth $10 and you can hire a personal coach for as little as 2 tokens although it typically costs more. To find out how quick you’ll earn tokens you need to use the calculator found on the “Earn Tokens” page on the CoachingTokens website. The rate at which you earn tokens will depend on the poker game, stakes and number of players you’re playing with.  With the use of Skype or TeamViewer the player can then receive professional online poker coaching from their desired coach.

Membership Options :

Coaching ranges from 5 tokens ($50) to 90 tokens ($900) per hour

If you have an account at most poker sites already you’ll need to switch to a different site that you’ve never played on before or you won’t be able to use CoachingTokens. The rate at which you earn tokens can be relatively slow on the low limit tables and most of the coaches currently charge quite a bit for coaching. I like the fact that they offer players a rakeback or VIP deal, which means you’ll receive money back every month based on how much you play.  There is no option to straight out pay for coaching at this current time, but that should be added within the next couple of months.

CoachingTokens is a new idea for offering poker training online and I think they’ll do great. Players don’t need to pay any money for the personal coaching, as you simply need to join one of the poker sites CoachingTokens recommends. Since they only make money if you make money, they’re going to want to make sure that they train you as best they can. There are already 30+ coaches available in a variety of poker games and stakes, so beginners and high stake players can find a coach with enough experience and skill to coach them.

Expected Value: Is Coaching Tokens worth it?

Coaching Tokens isn’t going to be for everyone due to the site switching, but I think they’re set-up nicely for new and existing poker players who don’t want to spend money on coaching out of their bankrolls. You simply join one of the poker sites on CoachingTokens and start earning tokens, which you can then use towards personal 1-on-1 poker training. Each coach has a profile listed on CoachingTokens and you can check out the player’s stats and bio before booking them for a coaching session.  Since not everybody has the proper attention span to learn on their own, having a one on one session directly with a poker instructor will be an advantageous option for many.
