Jon “Apestyles” Van Fleet

Jon “Apestyles” Van Fleet is a featured instructor for PocketFives training.  With almost $4 million in sanctioned tournament winnings and two Triple Crowns, to say that Jon has fared well as a professional since 2004 would be a huge understatement. Yet, he has done so by steadily progressing from smaller stakes games to regularly taking down some of the biggest online tournaments now running. Jon is based in Austin, Texas.

While MTTs are where Jon has made the bulk of his earnings (he recently revealed that he has a lifetime profit of over $1.5 million in tournament poker) he considers himself a well-rounded player, enjoying playing all forms of poker including stud and triple draw. He is also no snob, and can sometimes be found playing stakes that would make some pros laugh. But make no mistake, he does everything for a reason. Staying sharp, playing against ‘ordinary’ players, and constantly searching for more material to help him constantly refine his craft make him an incredible resource as well as a training who can speak from real life experiences.

Jon’s more notable achievements on the felt include:

  • WCOOP $1K buy-in (winner, good for $133K)
  • FTOPS XVI #5 ($123K for winning)
  • Absolute Poker $150K (1st place, $37K)
  • Monthly PLB in August 2007
  • PokerStars $100 rebuy (a win and several final tables)
  • FTP $750K (two final tables)
