The USA Department of Justice and FBI seized the four biggest online poker sites in the industry this week and now thousands of Americans are scrambling to figure out what they can do. The poker sites that were seized by the FBI include PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, UB and Absolute Poker although the seizure is only affecting those in the USA right now and not anywhere else.

The DOJ and FBI unsealed an indictment this Friday and a total of 11 defendants are facing charges and fines that could put them behind bars in the USA for a long time. The founders of the poker sites and a few other people have been charged in the indictment and could face anywhere from 5-30 years if convicted. The US government is also looking for the poker sites to pay roughly $3 billion in money laundering fines, which could be enough to shut down the four poker sites around the world and not just the United States.

Over 75 bank accounts in over 10+ countries have been seized by the FBI and this could have a huge impact on how players deposit funds and receive withdrawals from poker sites. You may experience problems withdrawing money from the four poker sites listed above right now while the heat cools down, but as long as you don’t live in the United States you should be able to get your money.

Online poker was never illegal, but accepting payment from US poker players is illegal and that’s why the major poker sites have gotten in trouble. The poker rooms used shell companies and fake bank accounts to launder money out of the United States and keep the nature of their transactions a secret. Many people believe that the banks must have known about the poker rooms and the bank accounts a lot sooner, as it isn’t easy to launder billions of dollars out of the country without getting caught.

Tom Marchese from the United States has ammassed over $2.4 million in career tournament winnings. The beginning of something new

I have something really exciting to talk about this time….

I’ve been talking to Daniel Negreanu and his crew a lot the last months about joining his new training site called PokerVT. It is very uniqe and different from all the other sites out with tons of new ways to teach poker and how to improve ur game. I wont go into details, but I can see this becoming huge in the feature and I decided to come along for the ride by signing a contract with them. I’ll now be making instructional videos for the site after the launch which will be in a couple of weeks from now. I’ll be making all my vids on Betfair, so if u want some lessons, sign up and come play with me and I’ll berate u and let u know how bad u are muahahah!! Nah, just kidding, , I’ll try to be nice for the most part, but no promises!

Anyways, other than that, Monte Carlo went to hell, and I didnt do well in anything other than a 1k side event that I cashed in. Ran bad in the main event and got sucked out on to bust. Then played some smaller tourneys but didnt do too good. Bubbled one and busted early in the other one. Oh well, there’s always another tourney.

Speaking of, I’m going to London tomorrow to play in the European Ladies Open. It’ll will be my first ladies event. Not really sure what to expect, but i think the play will be pretty weak for the most part, so I like my chances. Hopefully I’ll get in some interesting spots that I can blog about afterwards, but I have a feeling it will become more or less a crapshoot some hours in, like most televised tourneys. Should still suit me well as I’m used to fast structures online, but it definately increasess the variance heavily, so I dont expect too much going into it.

Brian “Flawless_Victory” Roberts, Jason “pr1nnyraid” Rosenkrantz, and Dani “Ansky” Stern, and Emil “whitelime” Patel are the cast of online poker pros who are trying to make it big. Three of the pros are working forDeuces Cracked by producing high quality poker training videos so they do have a small chance of making the 2 million dollars in the next couple months. The first episode was 22 minutes long and was jam packed with reality style footage of them playing poker, making prop bets, and going clubbing. It did seem that they were trying a bit too hard in front of the camera but the premise of the show still showed a lot of promise. They have ten episodes in total planned over the next 10 weeks.

Each player is held accountable for pulling their own weight by a weekly prop bet that makes the player who makes the least or losses the most do something embarrassing in public. I won’t ruin who lost the first month but it was pretty funny to watch the outcome of the lost prop bet. I also really like their “tilt room” that they use when the players need to blow off some steam, that alone might be worth watching the show.

Poker Training Guide does recommend you check it out as its good for poker and their is a lot of potential in the new poker series 2 months, 2 million.

Their website is really vague at this point as they are pre launching and now soft launching. Poker Training Network says they have video training for affiliates but those videos are pretty fluffy and do not say anything of substance you couldn’t find else where on the web. I have found about 5-6 different domains and various social networking pages all pumping this revolutionary poker training network product. It sounds like they are using the name Poker Edge software as their name brand product and its very similar to the existing poker edge products that many online poker players use so we will see if there is a name conflict it he coming days.

I needed to write a quick news item as people are starting to search to see if these guys are legit. At this point do not believe anything they say until we have done our poker training network review and give you the straight answer on if its worth it or not.

So stay tuned for more poker training network MLM reviews and news to see where this shakes out. I can say one thing about them; their budget seems to be big and they try to portray a large legitimate business.

For the last 2 years I have made instructional videos and written articles for PokerSavvy+. I’ve made good relationships with the company, and thoroughly enjoyed both my work with PokerSavvy, as well as the community that has supported me over this time. Emerging instructional site adds legendary player/coach to roster

After covering resources and self analysis we’ll begin the process of going through one complete HH per student (that you choose and send me). We’ll discuss the different hands and situations you encountered and explain how you could have played them most optimally. I’ll also take time to give you a number of things to work on after we complete the HH review.

In addition, I’m going to show you my unique style for HU play. Even if you are already very good HU, this will give you some ideas on how to approach it differently and switch gears HU.

If one of our group members does end up getting deep in a tournament(as long as there is not another player still left in that tournament) we will actively coach them through the end of the tournament with everyone else listening on through skype.

Hey everyone, I have addressed the major issues from Viffer’s post/this thread below.

“Taylor/CR knew Brian was multi-accounting, tried to cover it up, and Taylor actually encouraged Brian to get an office so he could play on a secret account”

To think that I would encourage Brian to do this, or to tell him to set up an office to do this, is completely ridiculous. Beyond the T&C issues, it’s good for the company for our pros to be playing on their poker names, and more importantly, it’s the right thing to do. There’s just no logical reason why I would want Brian, or any CR pro, to be anonymous or to be breaking site rules. I found out about Brian’s MA’ing sometime during the WSOP of 2008, which I believe was a few months after the multi-accounting started. I was very adamant that Brian should play on his normal account. I believe it was in late June or early July that allegations started to be posted at 2p2, and eventually, everything came out in August when Brian admitted to the MA’ing.

“Taylor played on other CR people’s accounts. One time, I watched Taylor play on Ezra’s account.”

In June of 2008, I was living in a house with ~6 CR employees (we put them up in a house for the WSOP). Ezra was playing on Cake Poker and a bunch of us were sitting around playing poker, drinking beers, hanging out, etc. For a period of a couple of minutes (I’m guessing 5-10 hands), I played on his account. Ezra was tilty and we were all sort of laughing at how bad he was running, so I offered to step in and play a few hands while he was freaking out. After a couple of minutes, he got back on and played.

“At a party, I complained to Taylor about multi-accounting and how all the regulars were using different accounts. He told me I should just multi-account as well.”

This conversation took place at a CR party in July of 2007. I remember this because I had a falling out with this person and this is around the last time we’ve ever had a friendly conversation. At that time, online poker multi-accounting was very common and many of the high stakes players did it. The sites didn’t enforce these rules as well. I don’t remember the details or context of the conversation, and I regret ever suggesting someone should multi-account.

TFPT accusations

There was also a post and some questions to follow from people about our TFPT promotion at FTP. I want to make it clear that the ex-employee that posted does not have detailed knowledge of our relationship with FTP and the inner-workings of the TFPT promotion. It would simply be insane for us to defraud FTP, as was suggested in his post. We have a great relationship with them, and they have been very supportive of our business as we have of theirs. When I returned home last night, I had received an email from the poster explaining his frustrations to me and apologizing for his contribution to the drama that has evolved. I spoke to him at length on the phone yesterday about the issues and motivations behind the post. He admitted to me that he didn’t have first hand knowledge of our agreement with FTP, and part of the motivation for his post was his frustrations with the end of his relationship with CardRunners. The details of our specific arrangement with FTP will remain private.

Stoxtrader situation:

Finally, regarding the Stoxtrader situation, I’d like to clear up a few things. First, there have been some posts stating that we have long been aware of this multi-accounting and collusion claims and are trying to cover them up. This is just not true. In his blog and on the forums, Nick always said that his accounts were private. In retrospect, I should have pressed the issue. It’s one thing to have private accounts on sites you don’t make videos on, but it’s not acceptable to have multiple accounts when it is against the T&C’s.

I had no knowledge that Nick was using the 40putts account until sometime in mid January. Nick felt it was important to tell me about a personal situation that required him to share that he had been playing on that account. Nick agreed that when he resolved his personal situation and took some time away from playing, he would make a post explaining that he was now playing publicly on the stoxtrader account. During our conversation, I asked Nick about the fact that 40putts had been accused of collusion in the past. Nick assured me, and continues to assure me, that these accusations are false and that there was no collusion with this or any of his accounts. Based on all my interactions with Nick in the past I have no reason to believe this is not true. He also reminded me that Stars had investigated his account and found no wrongdoing.

Recently, an anonymous poster made a post to 2p2 outing Nick for his stoxtrader, 40putts, and some new screen names that he recently created, as well as collusion suspicions (and maybe other things, I don’t have access to that post). I was unaware that Nick had created these new accounts or was even still playing poker at this time. At the end of last week, amidst collusion accusations, Nick admitted to playing on secret accounts. Since then, I have been in touch with FTP to give them the information of the accounts in question and to provide the background on the situation that I have detailed here.

Regardless of what happens with the collusion accusations, my company needs to set a precedent that it is not okay to violate the T&C’s as representative of Stoxpoker or CardRunners. In the past, we have been more lenient on people for MA’ing situations, but we will adhere to a strict policy going forward. It was mutually agreed upon that Nick would be disassociated from CardRunners/Stoxpoker, both from a pro, financial, and management standpoint. I expect this transition to take at least a few weeks to be complete, and the decision is final.

In lieu of the recent events, it has been decided that the StoxPoker website will be merged with CardRunners. This change will take full-effect on May 1st, 2010.

We feel that this is the best course of action for both the members as well as our Coaches and we look forward to CardRunners fielding the most diverse and talented roster to produce instructional videos for our members. The combination of both websites will provide a tremendous depth and breadth of knowledge and this expertise will be exhibited throughout all the content that we will produce going forward.

All of you who have memberships to StoxPoker will have your memberships honored and transferred to CardRunners. If there are any issues with screen name conflicts or payments, we will handle each matter individually and in a timely manner.

While I will continue to serve in my role as a liaison for the members as Brand Manager, I wanted to thank each and every one of you for your continued support and contributions to the community and for making StoxPoker a tremendous asset for aspiring players. I look forward to continue dissecting hands and gathering your suggestions on the CardRunners forums.
